Bike Handlebar Bag
Nicki LaFoilleCreate a DIY handlebar bag to carry your essentials while biking. Nicki LaFoille walks you through sewing a waterproof bike bag using laminated cotton, ensuring the bag and its contents stay protected from the weather.
Nicki suggests measuring your bike's handlebars and comparing them to the dimensions of the bag's rectangles to ensure a proper fit.
To make the bike bag, start by sewing the front tab and straps, then attach Velcro to each, as shown by Nicki. She provides the dimensions for all the pattern pieces.
Nicki shares tips for working with laminated cotton, including using a longer stitch length, opting for clips instead of pins, and selecting the right needle size. The laminated cotton used in this project is soft, eco-friendly, pliable, and machine washable.
Designate one laminated cotton rectangle as the Back and attach the straps to it. With right sides together, sew the sides and bottom edges of the laminated cotton rectangles to form the outer bag, then box the corners. Repeat for the bag lining, leaving an opening in one seam for turning, then box the corners.
Next, attach the lining to the outer bag along the top edge. Nicki shows how to turn the bag right side out and tuck the lining inside, allowing the outer bag to roll inward. Then, topstitch the upper edge to secure it.
Finally, Nicki demonstrates how to attach the front tab and Velcro to the bag, ensuring the closures align perfectly.
