Description

Quilts come in many sizes, from mini projects to king-sized bed quilts. Our creativity doesn’t stop with flat quilts—we also explore dimensional projects like bags, pouches, and box-shaped organizers. But what are the steps to create these specialty shapes? Let’s discover a couple of approaches to making these items.

Join Colleen Tauke, your instructor, for all things “boxed.” You’ll learn the best method for creating beautiful bag corners, along with a couple of techniques for finishing those interior seams to achieve a flawless look. Once you master these techniques, you can apply them to your own bag and zipper pouch designs. The first method uses a seam finish stitch to encase raw edges.

In this demonstration, you’ll learn how to measure and mark each corner properly for the desired finished size, creating that flat bottom for your bag. The second technique, popular among today’s “makers,” is the covered seam method. In this demo, you’ll see how to create bag corners that look just as neat on the inside, with raw edges encased in what resembles binding. Learn how to cut strips for bag corners and interior seams to the right size.

Next, you’ll watch a demonstration on how to apply these strips, considering where each piece begins and ends. Finally, Colleen shares a fabric glue stick shortcut that helps turn edges for either machine or hand stitching. With these tips, boxing your bag corners will be done perfectly, adding an extra construction detail to your project.
