Class Sessions

Divide the Batting, Not the Quilt (24:26)
Meet quilter Marti Michell and get started by learning her genius method for dividing the batting, not the quilt, to help you maneuver large projects with ease. Then find out how to seamlessly re-attach the batting so no one will ever know!

Border Techniques (19:53)
Did you know that 40 percent of a quilt’s total area is usually contained within the border? Find out how to add borders after you’ve quilted your top to save yourself from having to wrangle them while you quilt the center.

Single Finishing Strips (20:54)
Single finishing strips are a quick-and-easy tool to join sections, and they’re only visible on the back of the quilt! Follow along as Marti shows you when and why to use them, how to sew them, and consider their placement using a few different examples.

Twin Finishing Strips (24:40)
Twin finishing strips are visible from both sides of the quilt, but can easily be camouflaged as sashing or borders. See when and why to use them, and how to create them.

Multi-Layer Seams (13:06)
In this lesson, Marti introduces multi-layer seams. Find out how they work, how to reduce bulk, if desired, then discover a few more techniques to divide, and reconstruct, your quilt.

Making a Plan (28:28)
Wrap things up by learning how to make a plan for any quilt. First consider your ideal section size, then see how to baste your sections and prepare them for quilting, before exploring mitered borders.
