Sketching Your Point of View (1h 49m)
Find out how to draw what you see confidently with lessons from Urban Sketchers correspondent Paul Heaston. You’ll start by discovering how to simplify cluttered spaces so they’re easier to sketch, as well as how to add dimension to your work with value. Next, take the frustration out of foreshortening as Paul helps you apply this concept to give your sketches a more realistic sense of space. He’ll also show you how to maintain consistent scale and proportions as you sketch. Perspective can seem perplexing, but Paul will refresh your understanding of both one- and two-point perspective techniques before teaching you to capture them intuitively. From there, you’ll discover how space curves as it recedes so you can sketch scenes as they truly appear. Paul will even help you apply the techniques you’ve learned to create a wide-angle sketch of an interior space.

Figure Sketching Made Simple (1h 50m)
Start sketching figures quickly and confidently with video lessons from Urban Sketchers correspondent and instructor Suhita Shirodkar. She’ll start by introducing you to “verb” drawing and line-of-action techniques, as well as how to apply these methods to drawing figures from a variety of angles. Take your on-location sketching skills further with expert tips for capturing figures on the go and situating your subjects in space. Ready to add an element of storytelling to your work? Find out how as you sketch subjects in a variety of dynamic poses and add key details to your visual narrative. With these fundamentals covered, Suhita will help you capture lines of connection in your sketches, such as a figure reaching to grasp a piece of fruit. Plus, discover how to plan a complete composition, use watercolor to highlight your work’s focal point and more.

Drawing Dimension: Shading Techniques (1h 49m)
Get step-by-step lessons for drawing dimension, and make your work pop off the page! Artist and instructor Catherine V. Holmes will start by teaching you how to create a value scale and use it on a five-tone drawing. Move on to setting yourself up for more realistic results with tips for line drawing and contour shading. Next, discover how to identify your light source and give your work definition with both dark and light tones. Enhance the realism of your drawings as you learn to blend tones cleanly, depict highlights confidently and recreate reflections beautifully. Transition to working in pen, and apply stippling, hatching and crosshatching techniques to create drawings with depth and dimension. Plus, find out how to use contrast, a focal point and backgrounds to bring dynamic depth to every piece you draw.
