Meet Iris Schreier, proprietor of Artyarns and your guide to modular knitting. This versatile and elegant technique creates geometric shapes by using continuous knitting with short rows, rather than seaming. Iris reviews common elements, including turning your work and knitting backwards.
Master curved diagonal triangles by knitting along with Iris to create the Curved Wedges Cowl. Iris walks you through the cowl's construction of wide and narrow triangles, starting with an easy provisional cast-on. You'll knit the cowl flat, then seam it together with an invisible three-needle bind-off.
Iris wants to empower you to create a pattern you truly love. By deconstructing the project from Lesson 2, you'll learn how to modify the pattern to make a wider or narrower cowl. You can even change the triangle shapes and how they fit together for your own unique design!
The dramatic Zigzag Shawl is knit in two colors with a zigzag up the middle, but you never have to break your yarn! Iris guides you through the shawl's setup, knitting and bind-off. You can keep knitting from the shawl's tip until it's the size you want, from chic shawlette to generous wrap.
With the skills you've already learned, turn the Zigzag Shawl from Lesson 4 into a new design with Iris's guidance. Understanding how the zigzags are constructed allows you to modify your project to suit your own style, from a deep or shallow triangular shawl to a long rectangular scarf.
The Center-Increase Triangle Shawl will impress all who see it! Iris shows how to knit the setup triangle, beginning with a stretchy I-cord tab and geometrical center increases. Attach a second, larger triangle, a third and more, incorporating stripes as you go. Finish with an I-cord bind-off for a tidy edge.
Now it's your turn to be a modular knitting designer, using center-increase triangles to create your own stunning shawls, scarves and sashes. Iris displays a variety of her patterns that incorporate center-increase triangles to stunning effect. You'll be inspired to start sketching and knitting your own!
