Aside from a few specialty items, you likely have everything you need to get started painting. In this lesson Anne goes over the supplies and tools she utilizes in this class. Then she discusses choosing your pattern and demonstrates how to transfer the design to fondant, modeling chocolate, or royal icing. Next, Anne transfers a design to wafer paper and shares an easy way to condition wafer paper to keep it pliable. And lastly, see how to create a free freehand cut leaves to accent your painting.
Painting on a cake can be intimidating, but once the steps are broken down it is a technique that can be achieved by anyone. Using a combination of gel colors and edible markers, Anne will teach you how to outline your designs, layer colors to create depth, and how to use blank white space to your advantage to create highlights. Then transition to painting on wafer paper to add a more three-dimensional effect to the final design. In addition to painting with gel colors, these techniques can be used with other styles of edible paint. Anne will show you the difference between painting with translucent and opaque paints on both fondant and wafer paper.
In this lesson, Anne takes a slightly different approach to painting. Some elements of a design are easier to freehand onto the cake rather than having a plan in place. See how this floral design comes together with the use of wafer paper flowers and leaves along with the addition of painted stems and flourishes.
Now that the flowers are in place, it’s time for finishing details to make this floral design pop. Whether you choose to use paint or markers, adding a light source to your painting is an important step to create a more natural look. Learn how Anne adds white highlights and black shadows to the petals and leaves for definition.
In this lesson, Anne adapts her painting technique and floral design to accommodate the smaller surface of a cookie. First, she will show you how to cover your cookie with modeling chocolate. Then, learn how to coordinate the floral design and transfer it onto the modeling chocolate surface. Using edible paints, a beautiful flower takes shape.
Cupcakes can be iced and decorated in a variety of ways. In this lesson, Anne share two ways to add a decorative covering to cupcakes including a fondant wrap that fully tops the cupcake, as well as a disc that tops the cupcake. You will learn how to freehand paint rosettes that are quick and easy but still coordinate with the overall design of the main cake. Then learn how to create a watercolor effect that emulates a flower, but comes together in a matter of seconds. And finally, see all of these sweet treats come together creating gorgeous display perfect for any celebration.
