Swatching is the key to a properly fitting garment. In this first week, Bristol shows you how pocket linings also serve double-duty as gauge swatches. Discover the ins and outs of knitting lace as you work on a lace gauge swatch. Once you've got gauge, it's time to cast on!
This week you'll focus on pockets for your cardigan. Find out how to split the body for pockets and knit in the linings. Then just keep knitting, and knit some more.
Short rows add proper shaping to the left and right fronts as well as the back of your cardigan. Here, Bristol talks you through proper shaping for each piece, then demonstrates her preferred short row method: Japanese short rows.
Once the main body of your cardigan is complete, it's time to saddle up! Pick up stitches for the shoulder saddles, work the lace chart flat and get ready for sleeves.
Don't get stranded on sleeve island! Let Bristol guide you through working your sleeves, from picking up stitches and adjusting the length (if necessary) to binding off with a slip, slip, knit (SSK) bind-off.
Ready to complete your sweater? In this final week, you'll pick up stitches for the neckband, whipstitch your pockets and give everything a proper blocking. If you've stuck to the game plan, you'll be proudly wearing your finished cardigan in no time.

Bristol Ivy

Bristol Ivy is mad for fiber, and she has been since she was 17! A popular designer, she spends most of her time dreaming up new patterns or working behind the scenes at Brooklyn Tweed. You can find her designs in variety of sought-after publications such as Quince & Co., Twist Collective and Brooklyn Tweed's Wool People. When she's not designing new knitwear, Bristol travels the globe teaching workshops. She loves experiencing the unique creativity each knitter brings to even the most basic of projects, and she tries to encourage that creativity by exploring the "what if" moments of every technique.
