Learn how to measure, cut and assemble the strip sets you made in Lesson 1 into doublets. Sew the strip sets in pairs as Andi shows you how to neatly align and sew each set. As you work, you'll pick up Andi's helpful tips for keeping your red and white patterns straight!
Transform your doublets into wedges, and then the fun begins as your circle starts to take shape! Discover the best ways to measure and cut symmetrical wedges before sewing sets together, and then learn how to measure and block your circle to make sure that it's evenly aligned.
Now it's time to attach the circle to the background fabric of your choosing. Andi shows you a variety of methods to secure the circle, including hand appliqué and machine sewing. Next, learn how to cover the hole in the center of your design, and gain inspiration from Andi's quilting suggestions.
Practice your new circle-quilting skills on an even larger quilt! Andi shows you how to build on the same strip set techniques you learned earlier before you create larger wedges that will fill a bigger space. Then learn how to add a gorgeous, large symmetrical appliqué design to your quilt!
Andi wraps up the class by sharing even more Circle of Illusion variations. Learn how to create intricate designs using graduated color in new ways, and experiment with Möbius designs (strips that are joined to create a continuous surface). Andi Perejda has been quilting for more than two decades. Her quilts have been exhibited internationally and have won numerous awards, including Best of Show, First in Art Quilts, Appliqué Master, McCall’s Hand Workmanship Award and the Mary Krickbaum Hand Quilting Award. Andi is a master quilt judge for the National Quilting Association (NQA), and served two terms as the education chairman on the NQA board of directors.
