Meet Michele and begin with an introduction to stain painting. Then go over the materials you'll need to get started, including canvas, paint and brushes, and practice using a flow aid to paint wet-into-wet.
Next, Michele covers color mixing and layering techniques. Find out how to create secondaries and neutralized colors so you can get the most variety out of your paint.
Explore some more painting techniques, including wet-on-dry, dry brush, lifting and lightening.
Turn your attention to fluid mediums. Michele explains what they are and how they work as you practice using gloss and matte mediums.
In this lesson, master the basics of using gel mediums. See how to build a variety of textures by using brushes and palette knives with gloss gel, glass beads and string gel.
Finally, apply the techniques you've learned to create a larger composition on canvas. Michele shows you how the inks, mediums and application methods all work together to form a stunning abstract piece.

First you’ll practice on a series of small canvases, then apply your new skills to create an abstract piece.

And, as a recognized expert in acrylic painting, she travels the U.S. and Canada to share the latest techniques and materials with artists of all levels. Michele holds an MFA from California College of the Arts, a BFA from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and a BA from Tufts University.
