Meet Steven Reddy and get started by drawing inspiration from Steven's personal sketchbooks. Then, explore playfulness and realism, and learn how to achieve both in your drawings. Plus, find out how to select a subject at your favorite local cafe.
Work along with Steven as he delineates the foreground, middleground and background of his sketch with very loose pencil lines to ensure that the finished product effectively communicates space.
Steven shares his approach to contouring, starting with objects in the foreground of the cafe to establish scale. Then, work through the middle and background of your scene to fill in the page. Along the way, you'll also learn editing strategies to portray your subject from your unique point of view.
Steven tackles a different point of view in his work and breaks down how to draw a book bar that only appears difficult to set on paper. Then, learn how editing applies to stacks of books and other repeated shapes, and find out how thickening lines makes objects pop.
Discover how washes can help add form and depth to your objects and spaces. Plus, get comfortable with Steven's approach to making this process simple and straightforward.
Finally, become familiar with a variety of finishing techniques. Steven shows you how to use a limited color palette and color wash techniques to unify your work. And, you'll learn how to use hatching to accentuate curvature and texture of objects.
