While the first thing we knitters want to do when we hear about a new baby coming into our lives is grab the knitting needles and whip up a gift – there are some considerations we have to ponder specifically when knitting for babies.
In this session we will knit an adorable washcloth with a seed stitch heart on it – and it is provided in both chart and written form. Washcloths are great baby gifts – quick, easy, inexpensive, and you can never have too many!
While knitted items may not be great for mopping up food messes, a thick cotton bib with lots of texture can be of great use for soaking up baby drool before it gets on their outfits! This bib has a side snap closure for easy access.
One item that is fun to make and also always gratefully received is a hat – they tend to wander off in the diaper bags, car or stroller so having multiples is terrific! This hat pattern has a LOT of ribbing relative to the size of the hat, and that is on purpose. Extra ribbing helps keep the hat secure when worn, and also makes the size easily adjustable (baby heads come in all shapes and sizes!).
Booties are another thing one can never have too many of – not least because for some reason as soon as they have the gross motor skills, babies love to pull them off and fling them to the winds! This one is garter stitch with a nice long ribbing section which pairs perfectly with the long ribbed brim on the hat.
Blankets become heirlooms so are a perfect gift for a new small person in your life! In this session we are going to make a thick textured blanket perfect for tummy time, and the pattern is easily modified so you can make any size you like.

Almost nothing fires up a knitter like having a new person to knit for – especially if that person is tiny! In this class we look at several specific projects to knit for baby (washcloth, dribble bib, hat, booties and a play blanket) and in the process you will get some great tips and tricks not only about knitting, but about how to knit the perfect gift for a new baby in your life that is both attractive, but more importantly useful.
