Knit designer Jen Lucas introduces you to ribbing stitch patterns and everything that will be covered in the class. She will be showing you everything from her favorite cast on to her favorite bind offs for ribbing patterns, and everything in between.
In this session, Jen reviews what is included in the downloadable materials as well as what materials you will need to follow along in the class. Grab those yarn and needles and let’s get swatching!
There are lots of ways to cast on your knitting, which one to choose? In this session, Jen demonstrates the German Twisted Cast On, which is her preferred cast on when working ribbing stitch patterns.
There is a seemingly endless combination of knit and purl stitches that can be used to create ribbing. In this session, Jen demonstrates three of the most basic ribbing patterns – 1x1 (knit 1 stitch, purl 1 stitch), 2x2 (knit 2 stitches, purl 2 stitches), and 3x1 (knit 3 stitches, purl 1 stitch).
Want to turn that basic ribbing up a notch? Try working some of the stitches through their back loops. In this session, Jen explores working through the back loops of the stitches and examines how these twisted stitches change the look of the ribbing.
It’s time to explore Jen’s favorite part of ribbing stitch patterns – how to adapt them so that they can flow into other stitch patterns. She will look at a couple of examples and explain how you can create unique ribbing patterns of your own.
Binding off in ribbing can be done in a variety of ways. In this session, Jen will demonstrate some bind off techniques to make your ribbing look its best. She demonstrates one of her favorite bind offs – knit two together through the back loops bind off and discusses the importance of a stretchy bind off.
In this bonus session, Jen demonstrates two of her favorite decorative ribbings. She explores an eyelet ribbing pattern that uses double yarn overs, as well as a cable ribbing pattern, which she demonstrates both with and without a cable needle.
