Description
Crochet colorwork has quickly gained in popularity over the past few years and it’s no wonder; this is such a versatile and beautiful technique! But did you know that there are countless different methods of crochet colorwork? In this class, Brenda K. B. Anderson explores one of her favorite methods: using post stitches for tapestry crochet. This creates a thick and warm fabric with a surprising bit of stretch and drape — just perfect for making hats, mittens, and other wearables. This technique results in clear, defined colorwork that does not slant to the side, like many other tapestry crochet techniques.
Brenda’s favorite way of teaching is through making a project together, so she designed the Alpine Vista Beanie especially for this class. This pattern was written for 3 sizes, from child to Adult Large, and features a geometric front post colorwork motif sure to please the whole family.
Choosing colors with enough contrast is very important for a colorwork project. Brenda gives us some practical tips on making sure that the colors you choose will showcase your colorwork beautifully, before you even make the swatch.
In this class you will learn how to create beautiful colorwork motifs by using post stitches as well as how to work from a chart, how to manage floats, tips for detangling your yarn as you stitch and tips for keeping track of your stitches. You will also learn an easy variation of a slip stitch to create the very elastic ribbing, which is a great skill to add to your crochet tool belt.
As Brenda works through this project, she shares plenty of advice along the way including tips for left-handed crocheters, how to count your rounds, and additional information about the design of the chart (for budding designers), and a bonus lesson on how to fix any mistakes in your colorwork so you don’t have to rip out your stitches!
With over 2½ hours of quality video instruction, this class will give you all the skills you need to create this custom made, very warm, colorwork beanie and you’ll have a skill set for using post stitches to crochet beautiful colorwork projects!
