In this session, Brenda explains the difference between intarsia crochet and tapestry crochet. She introduces us to the main class project (Sunset in the Rockies Pillow) and discusses a brief overview of the materials needed for this class.
Brenda walks us through the very basics of Intarsia, teaches us how to change colors, how to estimate yarn for each section, and how to follow a colorwork chart.
In this session, Brenda shows us two different techniques that we can use to create cleaner color changes. She also demonstrates a way to fix our stitches after-the fact, which is very helpful if you have made a mistake, or you changed your mind, and you now wish that you had used the masking techniques earlier in your project.
Brenda discusses materials in further detail, then shows us how to create the colorwork panel for the pillow. In this session she walks us through several different color-changing situations to give us a better understanding of the techniques and options that we have for switching colors.
In this session, Brenda shows us step by step how to crochet the rest of the pillow. She shows us how to add an edging around the colorwork panel, then how to create the back pieces and button bands.
Brenda demonstrates how to sew the button bands to the pillow as well as how to seam the sides of the pillow with a crochet stitch. Last, Brenda shows us how to sew the buttons and snaps to the pillow to finish up our project.

Intarsia Crochet is a method of colorwork that allows you to create larger sections of color without carrying your yarn. This technique is perfect for projects where there are localized sections of color that do not repeat, such as landscapes and pictorial or painterly designs. Some people find this form of colorwork to be a bit messy looking, and wish this technique produced neater results. Brenda has learned a new technique for creating more polished color transitions in this style of colorwork and wants to share it with you!

In this class you will not only learn the basics of Intarsia, but you will also see how very small changes in technique can greatly improve the clarity of the image you create.

Brenda has designed a project exclusively for this class: the Sunset in the Rockies Pillow. This gorgeous pillow covering will help you to practice all the skills learned in this class, really cementing these techniques into your crochet repertoire. There is no better way to learn something than by getting hands-on experience. After teaching the basics of intarsia crochet, Brenda walks through the process of making the pillow, sharing many tips and tricks along the way.

You will learn how to work from a chart, mastering techniques for making clean color-changes, while learning how to manage the yarn throughout the project.

With over 3 ½ hours of quality video instruction, this class will give you all the skills you need to create this gorgeous conversation piece pillow and you’ll be able to apply these techniques to patterns from other designers, or in your own designs. Whether you are brand new to crochet colorwork, or whether you are looking to polish up your intarsia skills, this class will give you the confidence you need to create beautiful colorwork projects.
