The materials you can use for your blanket are limitless, but there are a few things to think about when making your selection. Here are some things to think about.
In this session we will take your gauge swatch, a kitchen scale and a calculator and do a little bit of math to figure out what size you want your blanket to be, and how much yarn you will need to make it. These are my most asked blanket questions!
I hesitate to say I have a favorite way of knitting blankets, but if I did, I would say it is working in squares. You can plan all sorts of patterns by utilizing color and texture, and blanket squares make for very portable projects if you are always knitting on the go like I am.
Panels, or larger rectangles, are the best of both worlds. Working in larger pieces cuts down on the amount of sewing you have to do compared to squares but is not as bulky to carry around or require as many bobbins for colorwork as working a blanket in one piece.
Let’s talk about knitting your blanket all in one piece! The upside is it cuts way down on finishing work like sewing sections together. The downside can be that it is a little bulky or heavy to carry around or work with in your lap! Let’s take a look at some best practices for knitting blankets in one piece to see if that is the right method for you.
Now that the main knitting on your blanket is done, let’s talk about the finishing touches like borders, and care and cleaning, so you have your blanket for a good long time.
