In this session, Brenda introduces us to the three lovely designs that were made exclusively for this class: the Botanical Bag, Embellished Beret, and Forest Mitts. The Botanical Bag features crocheted appliqué pieces. The Embellished Beret, with its smooth stitch pattern, is perfect for embroidery. Yhe Forest Mitts are the perfect canvas to try out needle felting.
First Brenda discusses all of the materials that you will be using for the Botanical Bag. These are also listed in your download. For the remainder of this lesson, Brenda leads us step by step through the construction of this bag including: working in single crochet, making increases, and creating the self-hemed edge.
Learn how to make all of the appliqué pieces found in the Botanical Appliqué collection. These pieces can be used to embellish the Botanical Bag, or they can be used on other projects. Brenda walks us step by step through the construction of each piece, and explains how to read the two stitch charts.
Brenda shows how to find the correct placement for the appliqué pieces on the bag, how to add the stems and how to sew the pieces to the bag. Brenda also shows us how to seam the bag and add the handles to finish our beautiful project.
Learn how to create the beret itself. Brenda discusses choosing the correct size, materials needed, and walks you through all of the necessary steps to crochet this project. You will learn how to work in extended single crochet, how to increase and decrease and a great technique for creating a polished looking edge.
After completing the beret, Brenda walks you through all the embroidery techniques that are used to embellish this pretty hat. You will learn the woven rose, a variation on the lazy daisy, and how to embroider lavender, as well as how to make some pretty leaves.
In this lesson, Brenda demonstrates all of the steps needed to complete a pair of basic fingerless mittens. She begins by talking about materials, and finding the correct size and then demonstrates the process of making the mitts. You will learn how to use a combination of the knotted double crochet stitch and a stretchy half-double crochet ribbing to work in sideways turned rows for a simple construction method.
In this lesson Brenda shows how to use needle felting to embellish fingerless mitts. You must use all felt-able yarns in order for this technique to be successful, including the yarn for the mitts. Brenda shows us how to transfer our design and how to fill it in using yarn and a felting tool. She also demonstrates how to do fine detail work such as tiny dots and flowers as well as how to add some texture.

Description

Add beautiful embellishments to your crochet projects! Crochet instructor Brenda K. B. Anderson walks us through three different techniques that can be used to embellish your projects: crocheted appliqué, embroidery with yarn, and needle felting. Brenda designed a total of three projects: one to showcase each technique. She demonstrates how to crochet each project as well as how to embellish it.

Think of each of the crocheted projects as being a blank slate; a project just waiting to be embellished. Any of the embellishment techniques can be transferred to the other projects included in this class, so there is ample room for mix and match creativity here! These embellishment techniques are also transferable to other projects that you might be working on; this works for crochet projects or knit projects, and also store bought projects as well!

The first project we will make is a gorgeous but useful tote bag, as well as a wide variety of botanical-inspired crochet pieces to be used as appliqués. There are three different types of flower appliques including a very large show-stopping piece! Three different leaves are included in the pattern collection as well as instruction on how to create the stems that connect pieces together.

Next you will learn how to create a classic crocheted beret. Using yarn, you will learn how to embroider three types of flowers and some leaves to embellish the beret. This is a fantastic way to use up little bits of leftover yarn you might have in your stash!

Lastly, you will learn how to make a basic pair of fingerless mittens and use one of the most versatile methods for embellishing your projects: needle felting. This is the closest thing to drawing with yarn that you can get!

Each project base (bag, beret, and fingerless mittens) was designed to be embellished. The stitch patterns were chosen carefully for a solid, flat fabric to make embellishing easy, and the designs were kept very simple so that they would all be beginner friendly and the focus would be on the embellishment techniques themselves.

With over 4 hours of clear video instruction and access to three exclusive crochet patterns designed just for this class, you will be well on your way to creating beautiful, embellished crochet pieces that will be treasured for years to come.
