In this session, you will learn what fanny pack features Nicki will be walking you through in this course, plus some options for customizing the strap. Nicki also discusses the included pattern, and what pieces you will need to cut.
Decorative elements give the front of the bag extra pizazz. Nicki discusses what to consider when placing the decorative elements, plus demonstrates how to attach pyramid brads to a quilted bag front, and how to attach a small faux leather tab to the bag front using rivets.
Nicki demonstrates how to construct the front zipper pocket panel using small fabric tabs at the zipper ends for visual interest. You will also learn how to attach the webbing straps to the side tabs and attach them to the back of the bag
In this session, you will learn how to create the zipper panel and attach it to the gusset. Nicki also demonstrates how to quarter mark this circular piece to prep for attaching it to the front and back panels.
Nicki demonstrates how to quarter mark the front and back panels, and how the bag comes together. Get tips for easing the fabric around the corners, plus learn how to bind the inside seam allowances using fold-over elastic. Then, you will learn how to attach the buckle and slider to complete your custom fanny pack!

Learn how to create a custom fanny pack with decorative elements on the front zippered pocket. The bag finishes at 8”x5”x2” and features a mesh inside pocket. Using the pattern that comes included with this class, you will learn how to attach the zippers, decorative elements, and bind the inner seam allowances using fold over elastic. Nicki also demonstrates how to create custom zipper pull tabs to attach to the zippers for extra decorative effect.

After her grandmother taught her to hand sew at the tender age of 11, Nicki fell in love with the craft and went on to receive a degree in Apparel Design from Central Michigan University. She worked as Associate Editor, then freelance contributor for Sew News, Sew It All and Creative Machine Embroidery magazines and appeared as a guest on Sew It All TV. She lives in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan with her husband, daughter and red worm colony. In addition to seamstress, she is an author of several novels and enjoys gardening and canning the bounty.
