Meet designer Melissa Leapman and dive into choosing the right yarn in a color that will show off your Aran crochet. If your skills are a little rusty, you'll have a chance to review stitch types and chart reading before getting started on your Aran swatches.
Create a dense, richly textured fabric with post stitches. Melissa walks you through the steps for making front and back post stitches, then combines the two to create a basket-weave effect. Once you get into the easy rhythm of this pattern, you won't want to stop!
Master the popcorn stitch with Melissa's guidance. Multiple double crochet stitches worked into one stitch on the row below create this intriguing texture. Combine popcorns with ribs made of front post treble stitches for even more visual interest! Melissa will show you how.
Give cross cables a try! Also called rope cables, this texture is created with double treble post stitches that are worked out of order, causing them to twist across your fabric. Stitch along with Melissa to create both left- and right-cross cables, then combine both for a serpentine look.
Similar to cables, traveling stitches are post stitches that are worked out of order, leaning left or right to move across your fabric and create simple geometric shapes. To practice, you'll crochet a diamond Aran panel embellished with ribs and popcorn stitch.
Using crossed post stitches, crochet an Aran braid and honeycomb that look just like the traditional knitted variety. Because the gauge is the same for all the stitch patterns in your class, you can combine them in projects of your own design, from Aran scarves and cowls to cozy afghans.
