Since we are making swatches not finished projects in this class you can use whatever yarn you like with appropriately sized knitting needles.
In this session we are going to review basic cable techniques, as well as talking about naming conventions and abbreviations. We will also take a look at making cables without a cable needle!
While traditional cables look terrific from the right side, they are not always so attractive from the back! Whether you are looking for an edging for a cuff or hat that may roll back, or a center placement for a scarf or shawl in which either side of the work might be public facing, it’s easy to make your cable pattern a reversible one once you learn a few tricks.
Up until now we have been working on cables in which the legs are always the same number of stitches, and always crossing in the same direction. In this session we will take a look at more complex cables.
In this session we are going to have some intertwining cable as we did in the previous session, but we are also going to experiment by creating some different fabrics separate from the cables – in this case, seed stitch inserts enclosed in traveling cable legs, and reverse stockinette as a frame!
Now that you have gotten really familiar with how cable legs and stitches travel, let’s add some colorwork! Even the most basic of cables can get a fresh new look by switching up the colors.
