Class Sessions
Getting Started
20:26
Meet your instructor, knitwear designer Dyanne Marte, and review types of knit fabric, grain lines and seam allowances, then dive into extending your seam allowances to add fabric where you need it.
Fitting for Bodice & Shoulders
13:39
Tackle bodice adjustments along with Dyanne. You'll learn how to modify your pattern for broad or narrow shoulders, adjust the armscye accordingly, and take in or let out the bust.
Armholes & Neckline
14:07
If your armholes gape or your neckline is too tight, Dyanne has solutions for you. She demonstrates how to modify the side seam at the underarm, raise or lower the shoulder seams, and redraw the neckline for a more flattering fit.
Issues With Sleeves
11:51
Knits are much more forgiving when it comes to fitting sleeves, but sometimes you still need to add some ease at the biceps or take in the forearm. Dyanne shows how easy it is to make these alterations and to set in the sleeve. There's no fussing with basting and gathering; you just pin the sleeve to the armscye and sew!
Hemming & Length
23:35
Getting the length right on knits can be tricky because the fabric tends to stretch and grow. Dyanne shows how to adjust a dress bodice that is too long, and how to lengthen one. She walks you through her tips for evenly hemming skirts and tops as well.
Problems With Pants & Bottoms
16:42
A great-fitting yoga pant can be impossible to find unless you make it yourself. Dyanne covers the most common adjustments to knit pants for a smooth look through the rise, back and thighs.
After-the-Fact Fixes
21:15
Whether you make your own knits or buy them, you can make them more durable by adding jelly tape to critical seams. Dyanne also discusses how to use elastic in your knits and how to add banding to lengthen and stabilize hems, sleeves and necklines. Finally, she gives you some pointers for caring for your knit garments so you can enjoy them longer!
