Whether you are looking for an adorable cake for your next party or trying to find a way to make quick and profitable cakes for your business, this class is will not only give you the skills you need to make four fabulous character cakes, but you’ll learn how to create any character with ease. Character cake designs are a fun and easy way to add depth to a standard round cake without all the time and skills needed to sculpt a three-dimensional cake. Join award winning cake designer Rachael Teufel in this class to learn how to create four spring themed character cakes along with coordinating accessories. By adding three-dimensional decor items to a traditional round layered cake, you will be able to create depth without the need to sculpt cake. Rachael will take you step by step through creating a little lamb, an adorable bunny, a fluffy chicken, and a sweet kitty. Along the way she will give you alternative design options for making and adding each individual element for these cakes. You will learn her tricks for making these designs efficiently, cutting objects with straight and soft edges, and how to use wires or dowels to add structure. Then learn how to make a few accessories to add even more depth to each cake design.
Join Rachael Teufel in this lesson to learn about each of the cakes created in this class. She’ll walk you through some of the unique characteristics of each design and the technique that differs from one design to the next. While you can skip around to different lessons to create the cake of your choice, Rachael shares different tips and tricks in each lesson for alternative product options, techniques variations, and design suggestions.
Learn about the templates provided with this class and how to utilize them to save time when creating any style of character cakes. Rachael will show you how to layout the design of the cake and talk through the different products needed to put together this adorable character cake. Then she uses a straight cut on the character features and assembles a variety of shapes to bring this little lamb to life.
Build on the skills you’ve learned in previous lessons to create this little bunny cake. Rachael compares two different styles of cutting out objects to create more depth in the characters’ features as well as how to vary the thickness of the features for even more variety. In addition, you’ll learn how to create upright ears and feet with minimal structural support.
In this lesson, Rachael shows you how to shape 3 dimensional objects to create even more depth to your character cakes by transitioning from cookie cutter shapes to hand molded objects like beaks, wings, and feet on this adorably cute little chicken. She also provides a variation of this design to create a rooster with a color change and a few more features.
With this little kitten cake, Rachael pushes you to explore more freehand characteristics with added depth. She starts by demonstrating how to create freestanding modeling chocolate ears with no structural support. Then she shares a trick for shaping more complex characteristics like a three-dimensional snout without using a cookie cutter and offers up a few alternative accessories. And finally, Rachael creates two styles of paws for a more unique presentation as she assembles all the individual pieces to bring this kitty to life.
In this final lesson, Rachael shares a few accessories to add to your adorable character cakes. From a molded daisy and a rolled-up carrot to a baby chick and tiny mouse, these additions will add lots of fun to your character cakes.
