Move on to personalizing your pattern’s fit through the outer, inner and upper thighs. Then, find out how to read wrinkles in your muslin and make tummy adjustments using the slash-and-pivot technique. Take your fitting skills even further as Kathleen teaches you to adjust for a perfect fit through the seat. Plus, find out how to adjust waist darts, convert multiple darts into a yoke and use a stretch band instead of a waistband.
Class Sessions
Choosing a Pattern Size
19:42
Meet Kathleen Cheetham, your guide to plus-size pant fitting. Plus-size pants present interesting challenges, as Kathleen will show you in this first lesson when she demonstrates the right way to measure, choose a pattern size and how to use a simple business card to extend a multisize pattern.
Initial Adjustments
22:38
The key to a good fit is understanding that making an adjustment in one place can affect other areas. Kathleen walks you through the essential first step of measuring and adjusting crotch depth, then shows you how to correct the pant leg length.
Hip Adjustments
17:28
In this lesson, you'll learn why working with the fullest hip measurement can sometimes be a mistake. Kathleen guides you through common hip alterations and even helps you create a custom pattern for asymmetrical hips as you find your way to a perfect pattern.
Thigh Adjustments
13:26
Your thighs are fine -- but your pattern may need help! Kathleen shows you solutions to common problems in this area, from adjusting for a full upper thigh to correcting the pattern for the inner thigh. Finally, Kathleen shows easy ways to adapt a pattern for a full calf.
Tummy Adjustments
21:29
Sometimes adjustments double as a way to learn new techniques. In this lesson, Kathleen tackles the tummy, using wrinkles on a muslin to determine where to adjust and introducing the slash-and-pivot method of altering the tummy area for a custom, flattering fit.
Seat Adjustments
13:11
After taking care of the tummy, Kathleen now moves on to the seat. Discover how to adjust for the two most difficult scenarios -- a seat that's too full and one that's too flat -- while avoiding the error of adding more fabric than you need.
Waist Adjustments
21:13
Your guide to custom fitting plus-size pants ends with a primer on waist adjustments. Kathleen shows you how to adjust waist darts and convert multiple darts into a yoke. Plus, you'll learn some creative options for those who prefer a stretch panel instead of a waistband.
