Class Sessions
Single-Position Hoops
16:27
Meet Lisa Shaw, an expert in machine embroidery and your guide to hooping success. Lisa will get you acquainted with your hoop, introduce you to the floating technique and provide you with tips to avoid the dreaded hoop burn.
Multiposition Hoops
12:07
Multiposition or "chunk" hoops offer a whole new range of options with more flexibility in positioning. Watch as Lisa shows you proper stabilization and design placement, while also demonstrating the advantages of using multiposition hoops on both flat fabric and ready-to-wear.
Multiposition Flip Hoops
11:54
Flip hoops are key to mastering the art of large embroidery projects. Lisa walks you through attaching and turning the hoop in your machine and solving alignment problems. You'll also learn how to use the floating technique while avoiding pulling, skipped stitches and gaps in your embroidery.
Continuous Hoops
12:44
Embroidering a border or other extended designs can be a challenge. Continuous hoops allow for those longer projects. Lisa demonstrates the proper way to clamp fabric, how to make the most of liquid stabilizer and how to choose successful designs.
Hat Hoops
11:36
Hats offer their own unique challenges. Lisa shows you how to hoop and place designs on headgear from ball caps to straw visors, along with how best to use your machine's trace function and create the 3-D pop that comes from puffy foam.
Hooping Aids
9:11
Help with hooping comes in all shapes and sizes. Lisa walks you through the benefits offered by aids such as sock hoops, plus some alternatives. Tape can help you hoop with correct tension, gripping mats provide a stable surface and a stiletto ensures that you avoid contact with sharp needles.
Software Resources
14:20
Now that you're hoop savvy, it's time to supplement that knowledge with software. Lisa shows you how to build your own plastic template, walks you through splitting a layout for multiposition hoops and provides an overview for working with Embrilliance embroidery software.
