Cook delicious, diabetes-friendly meals, snacks and more.
Who says that living with diabetes means you can’t whip up delicious homemade food? Join food consultant and best-selling author Linda Gassenheimer and master the do’s and don’ts of cooking for people with diabetes — including ADA-approved recipes, smart shopping strategies, meal planning and more — whether you’re pre-diabetic, have Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes or cook for someone who does.
Meet Linda and get started by understanding how the body digests carbohydrates. Find out what the daily recommendations are for maintaining even blood sugar and how to tailor your nutrition program with healthy snacks.
The first meal of the day can be a challenge for people with diabetes. Linda helps you navigate this traditionally carb-focused meal with a breakfast frittata, a convenient microwaved ham scramble and a balanced cherry-berry smoothie.
Lunch can be hard to manage if you don’t have healthy dinner leftovers to pack. Balance dietary needs in a delicious way by smartly portioning proteins with a steak-and-portobello sandwich and a homemade Caesar salad.
Healthy weeknight dinners rely on smart shopping and balanced proportions. Linda shows you how to cook two nutritious and satisfying meals: a pork pizzaiola that would make any Italian nonna proud, and sautéed swordfish with a sweet and spicy pan sauce.
You don’t have to let go of comforting one-pot meals if you're diabetic! See how to make two comfort favorites using your skillet and some seasonings: chicken and black bean chili and shrimp mac and cheese.
Diabetes-friendly entertaining can be tricky: meals should meet dietary guidelines but also please guests. Linda guides you through a balanced crowd-pleasing menu featuring a cool tomato-basil soup and a lamb and minted couscous tagine, and tops it off with a raspberry-pecan parfait.
