Like a cool breeze on a hot day, these nautical themed cakes really shine! Perfect for so many occasions, including weddings, children’s and adult’s birthdays alike, groom’s cakes or even a baby shower cake with a seaworthy theme. From fondant waves to sculpted yachts, we’ve got you covered in stormy (cake) weather if you’ve ever wanted to make your own nautical-themed sailing cake.

Rippling Waves Tiered Nautical Birthday Cake: This wavy blue sugar confection is such a modern and clever design: ombré fondant rippling wave layers, with a great foam sailboat topper. Lots of great party details from this nautical soireé here!

Just Married Nautical Cake: This clean nautical wedding cake smartly uses elements of boating: the knotted fondant borders around the tiers and the “Just Married” bunting that mimics the look of a yacht club’s burgee collection, ties it all together. I also like the classic sloop fondant circle topper perched on the cake.

Painted Hull Sailboat Cake: Jibe ho! This sailboat cake glides along on fondant curly “waves”, with its royal blue painted fondant “hull.” I like the subtle use of red for the flag, stripes on the main sail and the life preserver, too! A winning, simple and classic color combination of blue, white and red.

Sailboat Regatta Three Tiered Birthday Cake: This cartoon-style sailboat regatta cake would be perfect for a children’s sailing-themed birthday bash. Fair Cake did a great job in detailing the sailboats with “stitching” and matching that to the chocolate brown ribbon around the cake board. The colors are bright and cheerful, too. The fondant sun makes this day look very hot: time to dive into that wavy water! This cake is devil’s food chocolate cake and the detail work is created in both fondant and gum paste.

Fancy Yacht Wedding Cake: I’m on a boat! This yacht groom’s cake was carved and created by Cake Coquette. It really does look like it’s gliding through its cake board “waves”, doesn’t it?

Colorful Baby Shower Sailboat Cake: Everything on this pale palette baby shower sailboat cake is edible except for the mast. Colorful and playful, don’t you think? My favorite part about this cake is the white piped icing border detail on the fondant “waves.” Kind of cool how such a small detail can make those waves really pop out!

Fondant Ruffle “Waves” Sailboat Cake: Such a clever idea to turn the ever-popular ruffle cake into ombré ocean waves! Maggie Austin’s class Fondant Frills would be the perfect class to learn how to create this technique. I also like the fondant covered cake board and the imprinted message, as though it were the written in the water’s reflection.

So many great cakes, but the overall theme of this collection seemed to be modern, clean and well-designed, much like the work of Bluprint instructor Jessica Harris!
