Beary Sweet Teddy Bear Fondant Cupcake Tutorial!

Teddy Bear Picnic fondant tutorial

Materials needed:

  • Tan, brown and red fondant
  • Fondant rolling pin with 1/8″ guide rings
  • 1/4″ wooden dowels
  • Water/edible glue and brush
  • 1 1/4″ circle cutter
  • 2 1/4″ scalloped circle cutter
  • Small modeling stick
  • Round decorating tip #1, #2, #6, #7 and #12
  • Square embossing mat
  • Vegetable shortening
  • Raw spaghetti

Step 1:

Roll tan fondant thick with the rolling pin and wooden dowels as guides. Cut out two circles with the 1 1/4″ round cutter.

Step 2:

Roll one of the tan circles into a ball.

Step 3:

Begin to narrow the top of the circle a bit to create the teddy bear’s head.

Step 4:

Make little dot indentations with the small modeling stick down the center of the teddy bear’s head to create the seam from the bottom of the front, all the way to the back.

Step 5:

Roll out tan fondant with the rolling pin and 1/8″ guide rings and cut out another circle with the 1 1/4″ round cutter.

Step 6:

Combine the second thick tan circle with the thinner one and roll them together into a ball.

Step 7:

Begin to narrow the top of the circle a bit to create the teddy bear’s body.

Step 8:

Make little dot indentations with the small modeling stick down the center of the teddy bear’s body to create the seam from the bottom of the front, all the way to the back. Carefully insert a small piece of raw spaghetti in the center of the body by gently twist it down. Position the head over the body to make the hole to later insert over the raw spaghetti before it begins to dry.

Step 9:

Roll out tan fondant with the rolling pin and 1/8″ guide rings. Cut out four circles with the bottom of one of the round decorating tips.

Step 10:

Roll one of the circles into a ball.

Step 11:

Roll the ball into a sausage shape. Narrow one end to create the top of the arm and flatten out the opposite end.

Step 12:

Utilize the small modeling stick to make little dot indentations for the seams on the outside of the arm. Repeat these steps to create the other arm.

Step 13:

Roll another tan circle into a ball.

Step 14:

Roll the ball into a sausage shape, then flatten out both ends to create the leg.

Step 15:

Utilize the small modeling stick to make little dot indentations for the seams on the top of the leg. Repeat these steps to create the other leg.

Step 16:

Position the arms and legs on the bear the way you would like them and glue them in place.

Step 17:

Roll more tan fondant thick with the rolling pin and wooden dowels as guides. Cut out two circles with round decorating tip #12.

Step 18:

Roll one of the circles into a ball.

Step 19:

Flatten the ball out a bit on your work surface.

Step 20:

Lift it and flatten the bottom to make it sit upright to create one of the bear’s ears. Repeat these steps to create the second ear.

Step 21:

Roll out brown fondant with the rolling pin and 1/8″ guide rings. Cut out three circles with round tip #7 and two circles with round tip #6.

Step 22:

Roll all three larger circles into balls.

Step 23:

Glue two of the balls in the center of the bear’s ears and utilize the rounded end of the small modeling stick to indent the centers. Glue the ears to the teddy bear’s head.

Step 24:

Take the last brown ball and form it into an oval to create the bear’s nose and glue it in place.

Step 25:

Roll the two smaller remaining circles into balls to create the eyes and glue them in place. When complete, glue the teddy bear’s head to the body.

Step 26:

Roll more brown fondant with the rolling pin and 1/8″ guide rings. Cut out one circle with round decorating tip #6 and three circles with tip #2. Glue them to the bear’s paws with the larger circle in the center bottom and the three smaller circles over it. Repeat as needed with the remaining paws.

Step 27:

Roll red fondant out a bit with the rolling pin. Spread a bit of shortening over the fondant and place the embossing mat over it. Roll the pin with the 1/8″ guide rings over it to indent the fondant. Utilize the 2 1/4″ scalloped cutter to cut out a circle from the embossed fondant.

Step 28:

Utilize round decorating tip #1 to cut out tiny holes around the perimeter of the scalloped circle. Clean up each hole with the small modeling stick. Glue the teddy bear to the red fondant topper and allow to dry thoroughly.
