Pacify Your Sweet Senses With Baby Shower Confections and a Tutorial!

With approximately 370,000 babies born worldwide every single day, it’s no surprise baby showers are one of the most popular celebrations! These parties are the perfect opportunity to shower the moms-to-be with sweet confections! Today, we have a fun baby binky fondant tutorial, followed by a roundup of our favorite creative baby shower cake designs.

In this tutorial, learn to re-create these sweet and simple fondant pacifiers featured in the new book Sweet & Unique Cupcake Toppers to easily adorn your baby shower cakes, cupcakes and treats!

Materials needed:

  • Fondant (blue/pink and white)
  • Fondant rolling pin/⅛-inch guide rings
  • 2 wooden dowels
  • ⅞-inch round cutter
  • Round decorating tips #1 and #3
  • Medium heart cutter
  • Large oval cutter
  • Small modeling stick

Fondant Modeling Tools for Fondant Binky

Step 1:

Roll out white fondant 1/4″ thick with the rolling pin and wooden dowels.

Step 2:

Cut out a ⅞-inch circle with the round cutter and roll it into a ball.

Step 3:

With your fingers, roll it into a cylinder, then narrow the bottom to form the nipple.

Step 4:

Roll out blue/pink fondant with the rolling pin ⅛-inch thick with the help of the guide rings.

Step 5:

Cut out a medium heart with the cutter.

Step 6:

Use the large oval cutter to trim the bottom off the heart and use your fingers to round out the bottom to form the plastic disc of the pacifier.

Step 7:

Use round tip #3 to cut out two circles on each side of the heart toward the top and the small modeling stick to round out the inside of the hole. Set both pieces aside until they are both fairly hard.

Step 8:

Roll out blue/pink fondant with the rolling pin ⅛-inch thick and cut out a ⅞-inch circle with the cutter.

Step 9:

Use the bottom of one of the round tips to trim off the top of circle to form the pacifier handle.

Step 10:

Use round tip #1 to indent little circles around the handle.

Step 11:

Roll out white fondant 1/4″ thick with the rolling pin and wooden dowels and cut out a circle with the bottom of a round tip.

Step 12:

Round it out a bit, then shape it into a rectangle.

Step 13:

Use the small modeling stick to make holes on each side of the rectangle (lengthwise).

Step 14:

Apply glue to the inside of the holes and around one end of the rectangle, then insert the two tips of the blue/pink handle.

Step 15:

As soon as the pacifier nipple and disc are hard enough, glue them together, then glue the handle to the opposite side. Allow to dry thoroughly.

Top your cakes and cupcakes with these fondant baby pacifiers and enjoy!
