    Add: you still need to catch loose fibers as you go, and you don't want to stitch through the tape. I could show pics of the prepped rabbit fur if you tell me how...

    I have used painter's tape to catch the fur on the edge that wants to get in the way. it gives you a "handle" to push chunks away instead of fighting each fiber. I have used this technique working with real rabbit fur edging for a costume. (It was cheaper to buy precut strips than to buy faux fur & cutting it yourself.)
