You’ll need:

  • Cake pop dough ready for shaping
  • White candy wafers
  • Light brown candy wafers for piping detail
  • Licorice rope, cut into 1½” pieces
  • Lollipop sticks
  • Toothpicks
  • Ziplock bags for piping
  • Waxed paper
  • Cake pop stand or styrofoam block

Step 1: Form the cup shape

roll into a ball

Line your work surface with waxed paper. Use a cookie scoop to portion your cake pop dough. Roll into a ball.

create cup/semicircle

Use your flat work surface to flatten the bottom and use your fingers to evenly push around it to create an upside down cup shape.

use fingers to pinch edges

Use your fingers to pinch the edges. Doing this will define and sharpen the rim of the cup.

Lastly, use a spoon to push and create depth within the cup.

Step 2: Prepare the licorice handle placement

cut licorice rope

Cut your licorice ropes into 1½” pieces.

create holes create holes

Use the end of a licorice rope to create placeholder holes for the handle. We’ll attach this after melting our coating. Refrigerate all cake pop pieces.

Step 3: Melt the candy coating

Melt white candy coating in the microwave.

Step 4: Add the handles to the cups

attach handle

Remove cake pop pieces from the fridge. The next step is to attach the handles onto the cups. Dip each end of the licorice pieces into the candy coating and place them into the holes you created earlier.

Step 5: Attach the sticks

Dip ⅓” of a lollipop stick into candy coating; push the coated stick through the bottom of the cake pop until it’s about halfway through. Repeat for all pieces and let set completely before dipping.

Step 6: Dip the cake pops

Dip cake pops in the white coating and gently shake off excess. Use a toothpick to pierce any air bubbles. Place on cake pop stand and let set completely.

Step 7: Add the coffee details with melted candy coating

Pool brown coating on the top

Melt the brown candy coating, let it cool slightly and place in a ziplock bag. If the bag feels warmer than body temperature, continue to let the coating cool — otherwise your cake pops will crack!

Snip the corner tip of the bag and pool brown coating onto the top of the cup. Use the piping bag or a toothpick to spread the brown coating around evenly.

Step 8: Add the latte art

add white and swirl

Dip a toothpick into the white coating, dot the white coating onto the brown and use the toothpick to swirl the colors together. Place on a cake pop stand and let dry completely.

remove stick!

Step 9: (optional) Remove the stick

These cake pops would look wonderful as a self-standing cake pop! Remove stick by holding the cake pop and gently twisting the stick. Once you feel it dislodge from the cake pop, slowly twist the stick out. Fill in the hole by placing white coating into a ziplock bag and piping it into the hole.

Enjoy your coffee!
