In this video, Ashley will give you step-by-step instructions on how to cut, sew, press, and square up Half Square Triangle units. You’ll also get row and final assembly instructions and then Penny will give tips on how to plan out and quilt this quilt top once it’s finished.
In this tutorial, Ashley shows you step-by-step instructions on how to create Flying Geese units that come out perfectly rectangular every time! Plus, you’ll get tips on how to join Flying Geese units in several layouts ensuring that you don’t lose any points. Then, Penny will give you tips and inspiration on how to quilt this fun design.
This tutorial takes the skills you’ve learned in the last two episodes (half square triangles and flying geese) and builds on that with additional units. Ashley will also give tips on how to layout larger, complex blocks to ensure all pieces are assembled in the correct orientation. Penny then explains how she approaches a quilt with multiple repeat blocks and shows you some of her favorite motifs to quilt.
Ashley is throwing a bit of a curve ball with this next design and bringing in curved piecing! She will show you how to cut the curved template pieces from paper as well as fabric, in two different sizes. She will then show how to pin and sew the curves to ensure that the units come out square. Once complete, Penny shows how to accentuate the curves of this design with some fun circle motifs and swirly background fill.
For the first time in five episodes, Ashley finally brings a print fabric into the design (at the request of her 5-year-old, Hank). She will also show step-by-step, a new unit construction, and then give tips on how to sew complex units together when there is extra bulk in the seams. Penny then shows how to play of the fun designs in a print fabric to create custom quilting motifs and designs.
In this tutorial, Ashley will give you tips on how to work with small pieces within a unit, and then give tips on final assembly when a quilt comes together in strips and rows, rather than a traditional block setting. Penny will then show how following the lines of a unit within a design, as well as adding straight line grids, can have a striking end result on a quilt.
