Meet cake artist Shannon Bond and get started as she takes you step by step through three modern buttercream finishes: rustic, watercolor, and a mottled tone-on tone using her secret hot bench-scraper trick.
Buttercream Ruffles (24:39)
Discover how to create paper-thin piped fabric-effect ruffles, then properly mark and pipe diagonal geometric ruffles, and adjust them for dramatic shifts to horizontal and vertical designs.
Symmetrical Rosettes (17:42)
Shannon shows you how to recreate the ever-popular fondant all-over rosette in buttercream, and pipe symmetrical full-tier rosettes.
Rosette Variations (11:50)
After you’ve mastered basic rosettes, see how to adjust the design for a free-form, tightly-packed variation. Plus get tips on adding painted color to designs for dramatic-looking effects.
Piped Patterns (13:36)
Bring modern aesthetics to your cakes with fun piped patterns! First learn to create simple piped lines that add powerful texture, then watch as Shannon makes wavy, circular and abstract patterns.
Bas-Relief: Trees & Flowers (20:28)
Wrap things up by making on-trend, nature-inspired cakes in bas-relief. Shannon walks you through two different piping and carving techniques to create abstract sunflowers and dramatic aspen trees.
