Trend Alert! Vintage Looks are Inspiring Sewists

Everywhere we look, vintage is in. The popularity of AMC’s hit series Mad Men, among other contributing factors, has spiked the rise of vintage-inspired sewing, including dresses, skirts, shirts, and more! Sewists these days are constantly looking to the past to draw inspiration for future projects. Find inspiration on Pinterest and then take a look at the following Bluprint projects to see how sewists have captured the vintage look so perfectly!

Vintage Sewing
Swishy Couture Dress, made by Bluprint member Kir, has a vintage flair and is made with blue gabardine. When asked what she’s most proud of with her swishy masterpiece, Kir responded: “I love how swishy this dress is! I added horsehair braid to the hem and it really helps to give this dress the body I was looking for. It’s a blast to twirl around in it. I’m also proud of the inside which looks almost as good as the outside. The bra carriers were a revelation – this has solved a common sleeveless dress issue for me. Yay!” To get started on your own couture dress, check out Susan Khalje’s class The Couture Dress.

[one_half_last]Black on White Cocktail Dress, created by Bluprint member SewingAndStyle, combines a classic color scheme, houndstooth print, and a versatile pattern for a totally vintage dress! When asked to describe her inspiration, SewingAndStyle said “I always love this print and was delighted when it came back to fashion in 2009, so I made this dress, which later went through two more re-makes, finally I love this version. It is very versatile and can be worn in any season!”

Sassy Librarian Blouse, made by Bluprint member ShanniLoves, was inspired by the Bluprint class with the same name, Sassy Librarian Blouse.[/one_half_last]
