From David Arquette to Meryl Streep: Famous Knitters

People outside of the knitting world generally have a narrow view of “knitters.” Next time someone tries to tell you that knitting is just for old ladies, pull out this list of celebrities who knit and (nicely) tell them they’re wrong.

Vanna White
Vanna White has hosted Wheel of Fortune for over 31 years, and is an avid knitter and crocheter. She has her own line of yarn called “Vanna’s Choice” through Lion Brand Yarns, started after she professed her love of crochet on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson.

Christina Hendricks
In her downtime on the set of Mad Men, Hendricks is “mad” about knitting. She’s not quiet about her love of knitting, and brings it up quite often in interviews. She’s not the only one of her famous friends who knits – she was spotted modeling on Etsy for fellow knitter and actress Tamara Mello.

David Arquette
Knitting isn’t just for famous actresses. David Arquette is just one of many famous men who knit. Arquette, who learned to knit from his grandmother, is such an avid knitter that he graced the cover of Celebrity Scarves 2: Hollywood Knits for Breast Cancer Research.

Dakota Fanning
Representing the younger knitters is Dakota Fanning, who began knitting at the age of seven. Fanning is one of many young knitters who enjoys knitting for others. She’s knit scarves for Tom Cruise, Cherie Currie (who she played in The Runaways), Robert De Niro, and Denzel Washington.

Amanda Seyfried
Like many knitters, Amanda Seyfried considers knitting her therapy. She finds time to knit when she’s on set, then takes it a step further and knits while working out on the elliptical machine. Seyfried doesn’t limit her craftiness to knitting needles – she also knows how to crochet!

Meryl Streep
And last but never, ever, least is my personal favorite celebrity on the list… none other than Meryl Streep herself. Not only does she spend her time knitting between takes, but she is also known to introduce her costars to the knitting world (perhaps that’s how Seyfried learned?). And here I thought Streep couldn’t be any more flawless…
