Our Canyon Creek Quilt-Along: Here’s What You’ll Learn Along the Way

One of our favorite things about the Canyon Creek Quilt-Along Kit are the exclusive bonus videos that feature our very own quilting expert, Callie Works-Leary. Callie makes it easy to sew Monique Dillard’s eye-catching pattern with tips and demos for the trickiest parts of each block.

Here, get a sneak peek at just a few of the things you’ll learn from Callie in our fall Quilt-Along.

Callie Works-Leary Teaching Canyon Creek Quilt

The best part? Callie is at your fingertips to answer questions right from the convenience of our video player – but only until November 30! And since you have lifetime access to your videos, you can always refer back to them and connect with your fellow quilters at any time.

Before diving into the piecing, Callie offers advice on staying organized as you go.

“If you’re like me, and you quilt in short bursts in your spare time, it pays to stay organized so you can spend more time sewing,” she says.

Quilt Blocks

Once you’ve organized your fabrics and cut out your pieces, Callie shares some time-saving tips for chain-piecing the flying geese and sew & flip units in the center star block. Then she shows you her favorite method for trimming quarter-square triangles efficiently and accurately to finish up the block.

After the center unit is done, Callie moves onto the Center Star border and the Birds in the Air block.

She demonstrates an efficient way to make your half-square triangles all at once – without marking! Afterwards, she even shares tips for assembling the border and blocks.

Next up: find out how to quickly assemble the Log Cabin blocks by chain-piecing multiple fabric strips at once.

“I made this quilt twice, and the first time I sewed them one at a time, which just required a lot of stopping and starting,” she admits.

Finally, Callie helps you tackle the last two blocks of the Canyon Creek by walking you through some more complex Star block variations, before putting it all together. “Sew on your borders, quilt and bind as desired, and be proud of yourself – you made it!”
