Meet woodworking expert Jonathan Brower and begin learning about cabinet case anatomy. You'll consider the use and placement of the cabinet you'd like to make as well as the joinery you'll use: butted joins, pocket screws, dominos, miters and dovetails.
Jonathan breaks down the components of a standard cabinet with drawer and toe kick, and shows how to calculate its measurements. From there, you can move into designing your own pieces with the dimensions you desire. Learn about hardware options and how to draw up parts and cut lists.
Learn Jonathan's tricks for keeping track of the parts you've cut out, then attach and smooth the edge bands. Jonathan shows how to drill holes for adjustable shelves and attach hardware such as hinges and drawer slides. Finally, assemble your cabinet with Jonathan's guidance!
You can order pre-finished, hardwood drawer boxes to exact specifications. See how to mount the clips and fine-tune the drawer's fit, then install a door with fully adjustable European-style cup hinges. Finish your cabinet with a toe kick assembly and drawer front and it's ready to install!
Turn the basic cabinet case into a freestanding, multi-bay unit with a variety of custom options. Jonathan discusses woodgrain considerations for aesthetics and seasonal expansion, then builds a bay with shelves to hold wine and glasses, a bay with three drawers, and another with adjustable shelves.
Finish up your cabinet with domino joinery, with floating tenons perfect for wood that might expand and contract. Learn how to add partitions and use a story stick to plan your hardware and domino placement. Finally, assemble, clamp and adjust your cabinet and consider design variations for your project!
