Pattern Description:

This folktale inspired, fully illustrated 15-page PDF pattern shows you how to make a beautifully detailed 17 inch Red Riding Hood cloth doll that features:

- button jointed arms
- looped felt braids for hair
- removable skirt, slippers, and hooded cloak
- felt basket complete with cloth and felt cake for Gramma!

Included in this original pattern are color pictures, detailed step-by-step instructions and clear diagrams for every step. This pattern is written for folks who have had some basic sewing and embroidery experience and who are familiar with common sewing terms.

Materials used to make the doll are commonly available, including: cottons, wool blend felts, satin or grosgrain ribbon, safety eyes, buttons, poly stuffing and coordinating thread and floss. A combination of machine and some hand sewing are used.

This pattern is in PDF format on 8.5 x 11 paper, so you can print it from your regular printer at home on standard paper or card stock, as many times as you need for personal use.

PLEASE NOTE: This doll is not for children under three, because the buttons and small parts might pose a choking hazard.

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • Finished doll is 17 inches long.

Materials:

  • 1/4 yard (or a fat quarter) for body/sleeves, 21 x 9 in. piece oatmeal or tan linen or cotton for skin, scrap of dark cotton for legs, 22 x 9 inch woven cotton for skirt, 5 x 5 inch square for napkin, pieces of wool felt for hair, slippers, eyes, mouth, cloak, cake, and basket.

You Will Also Need:

  • Air soluble marker, fusible interfacing, 6mm black safety eyes, 1/2 inch satin ribbon, 1/2 inch decorative ribbon, scraps of 1/4 inch grosgrain ribbon, three buttons, scrap of elastic cord, coordinating sewing thread and floss, poly stuffing, fabric glue, optional fabric stiffener, and a long doll needle.
