Pattern Description:

While creating imaginary situations with her dolls, my daughter often craved an adult to be part of the play, as a result the Grand Victorian Lady Doll was born! She's really quite a versatile doll, because she can be so many characters. For example, she makes a wonderful Mother Earth, Mother, Grandmother Doll or Teacher.

This Grand Lady is created on a pedestal, which means she has no feet or legs that are visible. The pedestal under her dress has been covered with a "petticoat" to hide the mechanics. This design allows her to stand very steadily on almost any surface.

The finished doll is about 11" tall. This pattern includes step-by-step instructions, color photos, excellent diagrams and full size patterns.
Moderate dollmaking skill required.

Materials:

12" tubular gauze (or make your own from stretchy fabric)
8 oz. wool or polyester stuffing
10" x 10" knit skintone fabric (stretchy)
7.5" x 42" strip of brown flannel for dress
18" square muslin cotton fabric
12" square calico cotton fabric for scarf
string
dental floss or heavy-duty craft thread
6.75" strip of eyelet lace for bonnet (2.5" wide)
7.5" strip eyelet lace for apron (6" wide)
23" satin ribbon (1/4" wide) for apron tie
12" of sisal-covered wire (heavy-duty pipe cleaner can be substituted)
12" length x 21/2" wide gray wool fleece for hair (or substitute any doll hair)

3" wooden disk
9" wooden dowel (1/4" diameter)
1/4 cup sand or weighted poly pellets
3" or 5" dollmaking needle
doll-size wire glasses (no lenses)
wicker basket (optional)
tooth picks for knitting needles (optional)
tacky glue
