Use this PDF sewing pattern to make a soft flower rattle. A stem perfect for holding, colorful petals that crinkle, and a gentle rattle sound when you shake it make the Flower Power Rattle an ideal handmade gift for a new baby. This is a quick-sew project that you can make in an afternoon with heirloom-quality results.
A great DIY gift for baby showers!
Like all of my patterns, this sewing pattern includes step-by-step photos, easy to follow instructions, and full-sized templates that you can print over and over again. The finished toy will be approximately 8 inches tall x 6.5 inches wide.

This sewing pattern is best suited for advanced beginners who already know how to sew a straight stitch on their sewing machines, how to baste, and how to do some simple hand stitching. If you've made a softie or two before, you're ready for this pattern!

Since 2005 I've been sharing my ideas on design, technique and the culture of craft through my blog (whileshenaps.typepad.com). I have a master's degree in education from Harvard and taught middle school social studies in Mississippi and Massachusetts before becoming a textile artist and the mother of three girls.
My daughters, now age 8, 6, and 18 months, are the happy recipients of all of her prototypes!
My first book, The Artful Bird: Feathered Friends To Make and Sew, was an ALA Booklist top ten craft book of 2011 and I have a new book coming out about soft toy design! It will be published by Lark in May of 2013.
