Pattern Description:

These adorable critters are simple to make! They are stitched entirely by hand, using a whip stitch around the felt edges and straight stitches for the mouth on the raccoon, tiger, tabby cat and fox. Instructions are included to make an owl, raccoon, tiger, tabby cat, fox and bird. The bodies are made from scraps of felt (a combination of acrylic and wool felt was used for samples). The arms and legs/feet are made from folded ribbons (1" grosgrain, satin and velvet ribbons were used for samples). Buttons are used for eyes (vintage mismatched buttons were used for samples - if making critters for a young child, you may want to sew felt circles for eyes in place of buttons). Embroidery floss or pearl cotton is used for straight stitches on mouth and to sew button eyes. To finish critters, sew around the side and top edges, stuff with polyester fiberfill and sew across the bottom edge. Enlarge or reduce patterns to make critters different sizes.

This five page PDF e-pattern includes full size patterns to make an owl, raccoon, tiger, tabby cat, fox and bird; a materials list; detailed instructions written in English; and clear step-by-step photos.

Copyrights protect this pattern from being reproduced in any media format to be resold. Permission is given for the pattern to be used to make and sell the finished critters in limited quantities.

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • The finished critters are 3 3/4" x 3 3/4" (this measurement does not include the ribbons - the bird is a little shorter because it doesn't have ears/horns).

  • Acrylic or wool felt scraps - assorted colors - 4 1/2" x 9" is the maximum size that you will need
  • 1" Ribbon - 1 yard is the maximum amount you will need for each critter
  • 3/8" to 9/16" Buttons - two for eyes for each critter
  • Sewing thread (light brown was used for samples)
  • Embroidery floss or #8 perle cotton - for sewing button eyes & for mouth on raccoon, tiger, tabby cat & fox
  • Optional fabric glue (Beacon Fabri-Tac permanent adhesive was used for samples)
