Basic Skills Necessary:

  • You should know how to or be willing to try a gentle curved seam. For the quilt, you should be comfortable with your rotary cutter and ruler.

Pattern Description:

I had all things baby on my mind when I was designing my Jasmine Tea fabric line. That line was pretty much designed with one hand while cuddling my newborn Evelyn in the other. Seems only fitting to design a dolly carrier to go along with it so big sister Violet could carry her baby around too!
The two sizes of carrier fit dolls up to 14" or 18". a 12 1/2" dolly quilt fits either size carrier. As a bonus, I've included instructions for making a matching child's size quilt!

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • Medium Carrier holds a doll up to 14" in length
  • Large Carrier holds a doll up to 18" in length
  • Dolly Quilt is 12.5" square
  • Child's Quilt is 50"x57" toddler bed size

Materials:

  • Medium (14") Carrier: 1/2 yd outer fabric, 3/4 yd innter fabric, 1/3 yd handle fabric, 1 yd white twill, 14"x45" dense cotton batting (Warm and White), 12"x38" puffy batting (Dream Wool)
  • Large (18") Carrier: 7/8 yd outer fabric, 7/8 yd inner fabric, 1/3 yd handle fabric, 1 yd white twill, 14"x50" dense cotton batting (Warm and White) 14"x45" puffy batting (Dream Wool)
  • Dolly Quilt: 1/3 yd background fabric (white), about 1/4 yd fabric scraps for butterflies, 13" square backing fabric, 13" square thin white muslin (use instead of batting)
  • Child's Quilt: 2 7/8 yd background fabric (white), 5/8 yd fabric scraps for butterflies, 3 1/2 yd backing fabric, 54"x61" batting, 1/2 yd binding fabric (or use remaining backing fabric)

  • Clear tape
  • Fabric scissors and paper scissors
  • Rotary cutter, mat, and ruler
  • Sewing machine
  • Straight pins
  • Iron and ironing board
  • Hand sewing needle
  • Neutral colored thread for piecing
  • Separate color of thread for topstitching handles, if you like
  • Supplies for your choice of quilting method (hand quilting needles, thread, and hoop, for example)
