Basic Skills Necessary:

  • Comfortabe using Sewing Machine
  • Familiar with using zig-zag or decorative stitches

Pattern Description:

I began using inexpensive spiral notebooks, picked up during back-to-school sales, as my sketch and idea books. They work great for sketching and journaling, but are not very stylish. I came up with this book cover as a way to dress up those spiral notebooks. The book cover features pockets inside both the front and back to hold extra papers as well as a pen or pencil, and has a wrap-around flap with button and ribbon closure to keep things secure.

The construction is simple enough for a beginning sewer who is familiar with basic machine sewing skills. Instructions are also included that show you how to measure and make covers for any size or type of book. This pattern, with 10 pages of detailed instructions and over 24 photos and drawings, will lead you through the steps to create a simple project, as well as more advanced versions you can make to show off your favorite art quilting ideas. This notebook cover is a practical and decorative project.

Once you have filled your notebook with ideas, you can remove the used one and replace it with a new one to start fresh again.
