Desire to Upcycle old Jean Pockets into something Usable

Pattern Description:

My husband put 10 pairs of raggedy jeans on the trash pile!! I told him I could use those for quilts & other projects. He said - prove it! Most of what wasn't ripped or stained was cut up for quilting projects, but the pockets??

Time to re-purpose, recycle, upcycle those Pockets into something wonderfully usable! We'll create a "Pocket Pouch" to hold anything you like - art/sewing supplies, seed packets, electronics, coupons, love notes ... Very easy to make - no guessing involved :)

Adjustments given for different-sized pockets - "good ideas" section will have you making Pocket Pouches for everyone! Make up a bunch & have a family decorating event - use up craft supplies - repurpose old pockets - HAVE FUN!

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

13" x 13" (Depending on Size of Pocket) + Hanger Length

Materials:

1 Back Pocket (Denim Jeans, etc.)
9 Fabric Strips - 1 1/2" wide x 14" long
Backing Fabric - 15" x 15" Piece
Double-Sided Fusible Interfacing (Heavy) - 15" x 15" Piece
Rick-Rack/Ribbon for Hanging - 13" Piece, 1/2" minimum width
2 Buttons - Large enough to cover ends of Rick-Rack/Ribbon (7/8" used)
Contrasting Thread for Outside Edge Finish

You Will Also Need:

Sewing Machine w/ZigZag Stitch that can be adjusted in width/length
Iron w/Steam & Dry Settings
Scissors to cut Denim
Parchment Paper (or non-stick Applique Pressing Sheet) to protect ironing surface from Interfacing
Sewing Machine Needle - size depends on thickness of Denim & Fabrics used
Thread & Needle to attach Rick-Rack/Ribbon & Buttons - Upholstery thread optional
Optional: Ability to sew Decorative Stitches by hand or machine, seam ripper to remove Pocket if necessary, rotary cutter, ruler & cutting mat to cut strips
Narrow Presser Foot to sew close to Pocket Edge
