Basic Skills Necessary:

Pattern Description:

With this sewing guide you can learn how to make a simple but effective Oxford style pillow (cushion) cover. The sewing guide is suitable for beginners with step by step instructions, lots of close up photographs and easy to follow tips to help you create lots of lovely cushions for your home.

The guide will show you how to make a simple template using one square and one rectangle shape. You only need to cut out three pieces of fabric and there are no zips to insert.

No complicated techniques are required, you just need to be able to stitch straight seams on a sewing machine, it's really that easy to do.

All the seams are enclosed in the border so no neatening with zigzag stitches and the wide panel border is easy to create and makes this pillow cover a real touch of luxury.

This really is an excellent pillow cover for a beginner to make and they look great layered on a guest bed or relaxing sofa. Choose fabrics to match your colour scheme and make a pillow you can be proud of, for a fraction of the retail cost, you can recycle fabrics too!

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • The measurements are included for both a 16" & 18" square pillow pad. All the measurements are in both inches and centimeters to suit both US and European customers.

  • Each pillow will take approximately 3/4 yd (m) of two different fabrics, one for the top and one for the bottom. I use cotton fabrics but the design works equally well with velvets, tweed, corduroy and many other fabrics.

You Will Also Need:

  • Matching thread,
  • Paper or card to make a template
  • Iron and board
  • Pins
  • Scissors
  • Fabric marker
  • Ruler or tape measure
