*Freezer Paper is optional but a neat trick.
Quilters use freezer paper to achieve perfect shapes.
Freezer paper has a waxy and paper side. Draw the shape on the paper side, cut it out. Iron the wax side to layered fabrics and stitch along the edge. Remove the Freezer paper, it's reusable and you will have stitched a perfect shape.
No Freezer paper? Draw a stitching line ,around the pattern using a marker pen or chalk.
