Pattern Description:

Make contemporary doorstops with this PDF sewing pattern from A Spoonful of Sugar. Hold your door open or closed in style, with this easy to construct modern doorstop. Made from quilting cotton in colours to match your room dcor, it can be easily customised by using colour T Shirt Transfer sheets to add a motif of your choice.

Contempo Doorstops can be made from four fat quarters of quilting cotton. The Doorstop measures 7" (18 cm) in height, excluding the handle. It is 6 inches (15 cm) wide at its base.

You will receive an 11 page epattern in PDF format with tutorial-style instructions, full color photographs, and to scale pattern pieces (no need to enlarge, just print and sew!). PDF format allows you to print and reprint the instructions or pattern pieces whenever you need. You may wish to save paper and print only the pattern pieces! PDF allows you to zoom in on photos to see each step up close.

This pattern is suitable for confident beginner sewers and can be easily made in an afternoon.

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • 7 inches in height (excluding the handle). Base measures 6 inches x 6 inches.


  • 4 Fat Quarters of Quilting Cotton (fat quarter measures 18 x 22 inches)
  • 7 1/2 inches cotton webbing (1 1/4 inches in width)
  • polyester fibre filling (or your stuffing of choice)
  • 3 cups rice/dried beans/stuffing pellets
  • sandwich sized ziploc bag
  • colour T-Shirt transfer sheet for ink jet printers (e.g. Inspired Colour T-Shirt Transfer by Avery)

You Will Also Need:

  • Sewing machine
  • Water erasable fabric marking pen
  • Thread
  • Dress making scissors
  • Iron and ironing board
  • hand sewing needle

  • Chopstick or stuffing tool
  • Computer with ink jet printer
