Pattern Description:

This dress pattern has been a true labor of love. The design itself was born out of inspiration from a beautiful, vibrant fabric that I found and the desire to make something truly unique and amazing for my niece Irelyn. I began pulling colors from the main print and mixing various fabrics together and soon after my vision became a reality. I've created many versions of this dress and after many requests I decided to publish the pattern for it. Originally created in 2009, I'm proud to now offer this pattern to the public.
Featuring cascading ruffles peaking out of the skirt flowing down the front, this dress is sure to be a showstopper! The generous bodice and skirt both offer a large area that can showcase a beautiful fabric print or accommodate an applique design or monogram. The straps fit through built-in loops in the back for a secure fit and then tie into a beautiful large bow across the back. The back of the bodice features elastic for a custom fit every time.

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • 12 mo. - 6/7

  • Up to 3 1/2 yards of fabric depending on size and hem method, scissors, rotary cutter, ruler, cutting mat,

You Will Also Need:

  • straight pins, 1/2" elastic, fabric chalk, pencil, or marker, safety pin, thread, steam iron

Excellent Ruffle Back First Birthday Dress with Matching Headband  February 4, 2014

Great step by step instructions... was so easy, I made her two dresses -- one for her party and one for pictures!

Good Irelyn's Peek-A-Boo Ruffle Dress  April 17, 2013

This dress went together very easily. I had some issues because it wasn't clear what pieces to cut for each of the ruffles, but I had plenty of fabric and was able to figure it out eventually. At first I thought all the ruffle pieces were cut then the tiers were cut from those, but in reality there were the skirt ruffles and the tier ruffles which were separate. I think it could have been more clearly illustrated with a diagram, perhaps?

That said, I LOVE this dress and can't wait to ...

Excellent Highly recommended!  April 4, 2013

This was my FIRST attempt at using a pattern to make a dress for my daughter. I've sewn other things here and there for her but I always sewed like I cook-just sort of made it up as I went. This pattern/instructions was so easy to follow. The ruffles took a little extra time as the ruffler foot I bought was a pain but following the instructions, I was able to gather the ruffles by hand without a problem. There are so many possibilities with this pattern...I plan to use it again and reverse the ...

Excellent Peek- a- Book Ruffle Dress  February 18, 2013

I found the pattern very well written overall. The instructions on constructing the garment were easy to understand and flowed very well. I would have liked to have actual fabric requirements listed for the different sizes, I also was not prepared for how much gathering was really required for the skirt ruffle or the skirt to the bodice, I think a suggestion to sew 2 or 3 groups of gathering stitches instead of just 1 set of 2 on these longer pieces, would have made life a little easier. ...

Good Perfect princess party dress for a little girl  February 5, 2013

This was my first time sewing this pattern and although I picked a bit of a challenging fabric the whole dress came together in a few hours and I was thrilled with the results. This is a great pattern for someone with some sewing experience. There is a ton of ruffling which can benefit from a ruffler or ruching foot. Its an absolutely gorgeous dress for a little girl and endless possibilities for fabric combinations.

Excellent Wonderful! Great Pattern, not hard at all!  January 11, 2013

I attached the skirt to the bodice so that the ruffles were in the back at my friends request (the dress was for her little girl) It was a very simple change and turned out lovely! I loved this pattern, it was easy to follow and although the finished product looks like it is difficult to make, it certainly isn't. Very pleased with the pattern and project! I love the patterns from this seller and she is super pleasant to deal with! :o)
