The Bombshell is modeled on a classic 1950's silhouette, a style that harkens back to the golden era of flattering, sexy and (dare I say) modest swimsuits. The pattern includes 3 variations in 8 sizes: a gathered bust maillot, a halter neck, and a high waist bottom which you can mix and match with your favourite bikini top. Ruched on all sides and along the back center seam, the Bombshell hugs your curves while providing full (but sexy) coverage. Its booty encasing seat and skirt-like front ensure your butt is covered (literally), avoiding the dreaded 4-cheek butt-bulge of higher cut suits. Fully lined, it will keep you decent in or out of the water.

This PDF download includes detailed instructions with diagrams and step by step photos. The pattern comes in 2 formats: letter/A4 and one large 36" x 68" sheet that can be printed at any copyshop with a large format printer.
This pattern requires lycra swimsuit fabric and stretch knit lining. You do NOT need a serger for this pattern (although it does make for cleaner seams). I include instructions to make it using a regular sewing machine with a zig zag stitch.
This is an intermediate pattern HOWEVER I am hosting a sewalong on my blog here: http://closetcasefiles.blogspot.ca/p/bombshell-swimsuit-sewalong.html. If you have never sewn a swimsuit before or want even more instructions than what I include in this PDF, please check out my site. A novice sewist will be able to make this suit following that detailed tutorial.

Im Heather Lou, a Montreal based designer, blogger & sewist. An interior designer by trade, a fashion lover since I began making clothes for Barbie when I was wee, an enthusiastic home cook, a voracious reader, a woman in love with her Bernina.
I started sewing in earnest a few years ago when I realized my relationship with shopping was financially, environmentally and ethically unsound. I was sick of being in debt, and sick of being enslaved to the fast fashion cycle. Learning to sew changed my life in so many ways. Its become an outlet that fulfills me on almost every level, and the community I have discovered online has facilitated not only the evolution of my skills as a sewist & designer, but fostered deep, meaningful relationships with like-minded people around the world. I taught myself to design and grade patterns, and in the summer of 2013, I released The Bombshell Swimsuit. I had no greater plan at the time; I simply wanted to share a swimsuit I had drafted for myself and thought other women would appreciate because of its sexy but modest vintage silhouette.
The response was overwhelming. Thousands of Bombshells later, and I have much bigger plans for the future. You can expect a number of Closet Case releases each year, all designed to fill holes I see in the pattern market. This site will be a destination for classic designs with a modern and fashion-forward edge, beautifully designed and drafted patterns that are the necessary luxuries you didnt realize your wardrobe was missing.
