Basic Skills Necessary:

  • follow a pattern
  • sew straight and curved seams
  • sew through layers of thick fabric

Pattern Description:

Every mom needs a good diaper bag. The SweetPod saddle bag is designed to coordinate perfectly with your SweetPod baby carrier (see my other patterns). It's not too big, not too small, and can be attached right to your baby carrier. You can also use the removable shoulder strap to make it a stand alone diaper bag. The two front pockets are perfect for a sippy cup or bottle, your phone, wallet, and sunglasses. Inside there is enough room for all the essentials and a zipper pocket to keep things safe. It makes the SweetPod baby carrier you love ten times better! When it's rolled up, your SweetPod will even fit in the saddle bag.

The pattern has 13 pages of detailed illustrated instructions as well as full size pattern pieces.

(Hints for where to find the buckles and hooks are included in the pattern instructions.)

  • 1/3 yd. home decorator print fabric (or leftovers from your SweetPod if you had 5/8 yard)
  • 2/3 yd. 60" wide heavy weight solid fabric (denim, canvas, or twill)
  • 1 yd. 42-45" wide quilter's weight solid fabric in a coordinating color (for lining)
  • 1 yd. flannel (for hidden inner stabilizing layer)
  • 20" of 1" wide webbing (you may have enough left over from your SweetPod)
  • 2 1 1/2" swivel snap hooks
  • 1 1 1/2" single bar slide
  • 1 1" side release buckle
  • 1 7" zipper that matches the lining
  • 2 snaps (size 16 or 20)
  • high quality polyester thread (I like Gutterman.)

You Will Also Need:

  • sewing machine that can sew through several layers of thick fabric
  • zipper foot
  • 90/14 Jean or Universal sewing machine needle
  • hammer and snap setting tool
  • lighter or candle for melting webbing ends to prevent fraying
