I have never seen a smocked headband, but had the idea that a it could make a something that would be great for a really special occasion. It would also give a bit of elasticity, which would make fitting easy, and it would be more comfortable for the wearer.
I am so pleased with the results.
My pattern outlines how to make two different styles of headband. It introduces the basic pleating techniques, and teaches you five stitches. Once you have started smocking there will be no stopping you.
Smocking is a lovely craft, and if you have not done it before, my pattern with its simple diagrams and photographs, is a great introduction.
At the end you will have something that is unique, beautiful and useful.
I have always liked making things, and although I have been knitting a lot recently, I also like sewing and other crafts.
I live on the outskirts of London, and work part-time at a local school, and have partly got back into making things because my children are always doing something creative. At school I love the days when we get really messy.
