Pattern Description:

Do you love Sewing Together with your friends, but can't keep up with all the notions you brought? This was my dilemma!

The Sew Together Bag is a niffty little bag with three zippered pockets, four open pockets, a pincushion and a great little needle landing all held together by a zipper that forms two handles.

This bag will easily hold your 8" scissors, rotary cutter, marking pencils, seam ripper, extra needles, thread, snippers, and much more. It will amaze you how much you can hold in this fun and compact bag.

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

10"x5"x5"

Materials:

Main fabric: 1 fat quarter
Lining fabric: 1/2 yard
Pocket lining fabric: 1/3 yard
Binding fabric: 1 fat quarter

You Will Also Need:

1/2 yard lightweight fusible interfacing
1 18" zipper
3 9" zippers
wool roving or similar stuffing for pin cushion
wool felt for needle landing

Not for beginners... May 18, 2013

The measurements for the bag were spot on and I'm thrilled with the finished product. The instructions were not that clear, however, so I would not recommend this as your first (second or third!) sewing project. It took a lot of reading the pattern over and over to get my head around its construction. Lots of ironing and careful attention to the measurements in the pattern will help - the diagrams, not so much.
In saying all that - I'll be making it again!

I love this bag! I'm a beginner, but I was able to contact Michelle when I had trouble. She was very helpful! If you know how a pouch is put together this bag is very easy. I love having a place to keep all my sewing materials!

I would not rate this pattern as a "confident beginner" project. I am an experienced/advanced sewer and used my prior knowledge to figure out some steps in the directions. A beginner would be challenged to complete the project without assistance. This bag is very cute and functional.

Great pattern, though I think it might benefit from a few more pictures. I got stuck on step 6 but after ignoring the diagram and reading just the description I had the a-ha moment I needed to carry on. I also think it is worth noting that the interfacing on the side panels needn't be too strong. I used Vilene G700 and I think in future I'd use a finer interfacing due to the thickness you need to sew through in later steps. Also I'd make the binding a smidgen bigger as I found it a bit ...

This is one of my favorite projects for myself. So useful, and adorable! I know I will get many requests from my friends..... As for the pattern, the instructions were clearly written, however there were a few steps that I found to be confusing (Step 6 especially). The diagram created more confusion than the written instructions. I had a lot of trouble understanding the pattern, but it's because I am a visual learner. Michelle was very helpful though and once I made one I didn't need the directions for a second bag other than dimensions to cut the pieces. I am starting another bag with clear vinyl on the inside so I can use it as a makeup bag. I love this bag :)

I really love how this bag turned out I can't wait to make more for my self and for friends as gifts. This is a great bag very versatile I am going to make another just for crochet notions and hooks. This would also make a great makeup bag or travel bag for all those little essentials. Most of all I take my sewing supplies with me to sew with other crafters and it's perfect for all my supplies and I take a lot with me.

I have now made several of these bags, and I have to say I really love this bag. I taught a class on it and I am pleased to say everyone did very well, but I think it was so helpful to have my sample of my original bag to show the steps.
